The Strand Theater, located in the Station
North Arts District, will be opening its doors for the first time! The first production in the Strand’s inaugural season
is Non Stop Realism by Tim Paggi, as part of the Baltimore Playwright’s Festival. The original play is a fast and furious
satirical critique on American life. It addresses themes such as the nature of relationships, women’s role in society,
and the humorous side of loneliness.
The
entire first season of the Strand is dedicated to new works. “The Baltimore Playwright’s Festival is the perfect
opening to our season. The mission of the BPF is completely in synch with our own,” states Artistic Director, Jayme
Kilburn. “The theater community has been extremely supportive of the Strand, loaning us lights, donating time, and assisting
with the cost of fees. We are looking forward to being a part of this collaborative festival.”
The Strand Theater has been working towards this date since October 2007.
Painting, renovating, rehearsing, and building relationships with the community have finally brought them to this point. Non
Stop Realism was the perfect choice for director Jayme Kilburn, who has won two previous awards in the festival for Best Production
2007 and Second Best Production 2006. She has assembled a cast of hard-working, dedicated actors and is looking forward to
watching the hard work of the entire company culminating in this first production.
The production runs July 17th – August 3rd. Friday and Saturday performances
begin at 8pm and Sunday performances begin at 2pm.
